OSPF: LAB: ENABLING OSPF

If on a router,

for ip 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.5, ospf enabled using wildcard mask 0.0.0.0

But, on the router, we don’t have ip 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.5 configured on any interface

so, ospf should not be enabed, but ospf got enabled with RID 192.168.10.9(Highest ip configured on interface)

E.g:

Sh run:

router ospf 1

log-adjacency-changes

network 192.168.10.1 0.0.0.0 area 0

network 192.168.10.5 0.0.0.0 area 0

Router#sh ip int br

Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol

Serial0/0                  192.168.10.2    YES NVRAM  up                    up

Serial0/1                  192.168.10.9    YES NVRAM  up                    up

Router#sh ip ospf database

OSPF Router with ID (192.168.10.9) (Process ID 1)

Router Link States (Area 0)

Link ID         ADV Router      Age         Seq#       Checksum Link count

192.168.10.9    192.168.10.9    1571        0x80000001 0x009AAF 0

Conclusion:

OSPF technically enabled using

command: router ospf <process id>

RID will be selected

But, it will not form any neighborship with any other router, as Hello packet will not be generated

as router will not find any matching interface from network command to enable OSPF

Using command: debug ip ospf packet

There is no Hello packet transfer
