HSRP: CONCEPT: ONE VLAN ONE HSRP GROUP


HSRP

CASE:  Only one VLAN present in LAN

For One VLAN, we will check out two things

Can we achieve Redundancy and Load sharing both

 

CHECKING REDUNDANCY

Given:

One VLAN present in LAN, VLAN 10

Subnet assigned to VLAN10 is  192.168.100.0/24

IP assgned to

Host A:  192.168.100.2

Host B:  192.168.100.3

Host C:  192.168.100.4

VIP for Standby group: 192.168.100.1

Configuration:

R1(Config)#conf t

R1(Config)#int f0/0

R1(Config-if)#standby 1 ip 192.168.100.1

R1(Config-if)#standby 1 priority 120

R1(Config-if)#standby 1 preempt

R2(Config)#conf t

R2(Config)#int f0/0

R2(Config-if)#standby 1 ip 192.168.100.1

R2(Config-if)#standby 1 priority 110

R2(Config-if)#standby 1 preempt

Conclusion:

here, R1 is Active and R2 is standby

In normal scenario, all the traffic from any host or VLAN 10 will pass from R1 and R2 will provide redundancy incase of failure

So, Only Redundancy is acheived in this scenario
