HSRP: LAB: SINGLE GROUP HSRP

SCENARIO DETAILS

Here, we are configuring Single HSRP(or simply HSRP configuration using Single Group)

We have only one VLAN, say VLAN 40

We are creating a single group, Group 10

In a single group, One router is made Active and One is made standby

CONFIGURATION DETAILS

At Master HSRP:

On interface connected to LAN side

Standby  10  ip  192.168.10.1

/Here, group number is 10, and ip used belongs to the same subnet as of VLAN 40/

Standby 10 priority 100

/To make Master device as Active in HSRP/

Standby 10 preempt

/By using Preempt, at any point of time, Higher priority device becomes Active/

At Standby HSRP:

On interface connected to LAN side

Standby  10  ip  192.168.10.1

/Here, group number is 10, and ip used belongs to the same subnet as of VLAN 40/

Standby 10 priority 50

/To make Backup device as Standby in HSRP/

Standby 10 preempt

/By using Preempt, at any point of time, Higher priority device becomes Active/

Point to be Noted:

Here, To make one Device Active and One standby

Same Standby group is created on both the devices, so that both devices can do comparison in a group

The difference lies in the priority, by comparison one becomes Active and One becomes Standby
